John Freeman explores the use of art and the creative process as a reflective practice and tool for self-inquiry. His current paintings are Abstract Expressionist in style, expressing inner feelings, experiences and places in a non-representative manner. These images are colourful and an expression of the joy of life. His “Inner Journey” solo exhibition won the SALA (South Australian Living Artist) Award in 2020. John trained as an artist and teacher, completing a number of degrees including Fine Arts, Visual Arts and Education. Once completed, an electronic image of the painting is used with movement and sound to create a vignette. Like the painting, the music is layered with solfeggio frequencies, atmospheric sounds and melodic tones. As an electronic asset it offers a broader opportunity for exposure and further the contemplative and meditative experience of the viewers. John lives with his family on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, his work is on permanent display at Fleurieu Arthouse and the Salopian Inn, McLaren Vale and in his studio gallery.
