The Australian Government is developing a new National Cultural Policy for Australia.
The new cultural policy will be shaped by Australia’s arts, entertainment and cultural sectors – that’s us!
You can have your say on how the policy can place arts at the centre of modern Australian life, including respecting and celebrating First Nations art and culture, and recognising artists as critical workers in our economy.
Guildhouse will be making a submission on behalf of our membership, however, we also encourage you to make a submission as an independent practitioner. You can find out more, read other people’s contributions (very helpful if you’re not sure where to start) and submit your own written or spoken response here.
Submissions are due at midnight (AEST) on Monday 22 August.
This new policy will be shaped around the 5 goals of Creative Australia which have been distilled into the following pillars:
- First Nations: recognising and respecting the crucial place of these stories at the centre of our arts and culture.
- A place for every story: reflecting the diversity of our stories and the contribution of all Australians as the creators of culture.
- The centrality of the artist: supporting the artist as worker and celebrating their role as the creators of culture.
- Strong institutions: providing support across the spectrum of institutions which sustain our arts and culture.
- Reaching the audience: ensuring our stories reach the right people at home and abroad.
As a thank you, you can go into the running to win a new Guildhouse Unceded Seeded (Ngampa) tea towel or cap by Brad Darkson and Aunty Lynette Crocker.
