…and the roots run deep while the windows whisper is a celebration of community, history, and discovery, capturing the essence of North Adelaide through a dynamic interplay of architecture, nature, and symbolism. Designed to invite curiosity, it encourages viewers to look closer and uncover new details with each visit. Layers of archways, doorways, and windows reference North Adelaide’s historic architecture, yet their perspectives challenge perception.
Native flora weaves throughout the mural, reflecting the biodiversity of the surrounding parklands, including Pirltawardli (Possum Park). A central Karra (river red gum) symbolises North Adelaide’s layered history, its deep roots representing Kaurna and colonial narratives, while its branches intertwine with culturally significant native plants. These botanical elements acknowledge traditional Kaurna knowledge, incorporating insights shared by Kaurna and Narungga man, Jack Buckskin and the Knowledge Project.
This mural has an interactive augmented reality (AR) feature, transforming this space into a site of imagination and connection, fostering contemplation, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for North Adelaide. To activate the AR feature, download the EyeJack app and hold the camera up to the art and this wall will come to life.
