Integrated wall mural, 2020
Commissioned by SkyCity and Buchan Group
SkyCity and Buchan Group engaged Guildhouse to commission a visual artist to develop a large mural in the Adelaide Casino as part of redevelopment of the Level One precinct ‘The District’. Artist Dan Withey’s unique visual language of clean lines, vivid colours, solid shapes, and tribal totemic elements lent itself to the project and he was chosen to imbue his playful humour into the site.
About the artist
Dan Withey was born in Birmingham England in 1986. In 2004 he immigrated to Australia and studied a Bachelor of Visual Communication (specialising in Illustration) at the University of South Australia. Upon graduating in 2007 with the Design Institute of Australia’s student of the year award, Withey decided to transition into a career in Visual Arts. Since this time he has had over 17 successful solo shows.
His art, although addressing dilemmas of modern day society such as consumerism, the environment and freedom, are still imbued with a playful humour and humbleness that make them completely unpretentious and accessible to all audiences.
Withey has undertaken several commissioned mural projects in recent years, including Mexican Society and Fish Head.
