Artist Statement
Unbound Diaries is a reflection on the relationship between Personal Identity and Visual Poetry, through the analysis and re-interpretation of my illustrative work throughout the years, as a neurodiverse and migrant woman.
The exhibition plays the role of a fragmented journal, unveiling personal anecdotes, existentialist questioning and derived stories, accentuated by the juxtaposition of mutually complementing text and images. I thus intend to reveal the process of auto-perception and auto-definition inherent to my creative practice.
About the artist
Ana is a Colombian/Australian visual storyteller with an eye for creating unique worlds and characters through sequential narrative, illustration and animation, often inspired by her love for fantasy and magic realism. She’s fond of interweaving memory and identity through visual poetry, transporting audiences to realms of wonder and mystery.
Ana is also the director of the boutique animation production company Karu-Karu, where she writes and designs story concepts for projects officially selected in renown international film festivals and markets, leading to numerous awards and recognitions. She enjoys nurturing emerging artists as a mentor, educator and art- community advisor, as well as pursuing her interest in exploring themes like migration, memory, identity, neurodiversity and self-expression, in quirky and metaphoric ways.
