William Gregory and Charlie Taplin of Tutti Arts

William Gregory, of Tutti Arts, is a visual artist, illustrator and animator who writes and illustrates books every day. He describes his work as ‘my everyday book schedule’. Inspired by popular culture, cartoons, movies, Australiana and classical art, his work is characterised by a bold, illustrative drawing style. His stories hybridise characters and re-write scenes from iconic television programs and films.

William was part of Tutti’s Reaching Out project which saw learning disabled and neurodivergent visual artists work side-by-side with non-disabled peers artistically responding to leading cultural institutions. William worked with artist Mawarini to present ‘Fantasy Estate’, which featured installation, drawing and augmented reality works that illuminated Carrick Hill’s curious past while imbuing it with a sense of the fanciful.

I like art. It all started when I stumbled across BBC’s ‘Art Attack’, hosted by Neil Buchanan. That was how I got into drawing pictures based on some old classic paintings by the Masters, which inspired some nude paintings, made into my own style. I also like writing stories and imagining them into books. I also use fantasy, animals, unicorns and history as my themes, and I like drawing in an illustrative style and turning some into sculptures.

Charlie Taplin, of Tutti Arts, is an abstract artist who is inspired by nature and patterns. He often works in acrylic and inks, layering his colours to reveal delicate forms and structures. Charlie has a strong colour sensibility. His works are typically highly detailed and executed with delicate sophistication.

Charlie has been exhibiting for many years and presented his first solo exhibition ‘Molecule’ in 2019. In recent years, Charlie has collaborated with other artists to create installation works for several festivals both in South Australia and interstate. These included Human Kind in Sydney in 2023 and Adelaide Festival in 2024 as part of ‘Floods of Fire’ a multi-disciplinary community event providing a collective platform for addressing climate change while showcasing the creativity and stories of South Australians.

I like patterns, colours, plants, flowers, lines, shapes, and colouring-in. I use paint, pencil, pen, and ink to make my pictures on paper, canvas, and pots. I also sometimes make puppets, costumes, and soft and papier-mâché sculptures of myself, creatures, and monsters.
