Guildhouse is thrilled to announce the third year of its regional professional development program Intersection.

In 2026 representatives from Guildhouse and Country Arts SA will visit regionally based artists in the Adelaide Hills, Port Lincoln, Southern Flinders Ranges, and the Barossa Valley.

Intersection is a structured outreach program that has been designed specifically for visual artists, craft practitioners, designers, and creatives, at all career levels, in regional South Australia. The program seeks to address the isolation and barriers that frequently come with regional and remote arts practice by providing tailored advice for artists through studio visits, one-on-one meetings and community events in each region. The Intersection Regional Tour leverages the industry knowledge and expertise of both Guildhouse and Country Arts SA, to connect regional artists with new opportunities and networks.

This initiative is a collaboration between Guildhouse and Country Arts SA, generously supported by the Adés Family Foundation.

Launched in 2024, Intersection has already visited artists in the Fleurieu Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Riverland, Limestone Coast, Spencer Gulf, Kangaroo Island, Clare Valley and Burra, The Rural City of Murray Bridge, Murray Rivers, Lakes and Coorong meeting with over 250 regional South Australian creatives.

Feedback from participating artists:

Staff members represented their organisations with the utmost professionalism and respect. They were approachable, open, honest, kind, enthusiastic and highly engaging – sharing stories, asking questions and delving deeper into my art practice and life as a regional artist to gain insights and opinions. I feel very grateful to have been part of the tour and I know that I will keep in touch and become more involved in both Country Arts SA and Guildhouse as a direct result of the visit.(Clare Valley and Burra participant)

“It was a great experience for me show my workspace to professionals in the art industry and to gain knowledge about different things.” (Murray River, Lakes & Coorong participant)

Guildhouse CEO Beth Neate emphasised the importance of the program for regional communities.

“Intersection is about broadening access to opportunities for South Australian artists living outside of the metropolitan area. Our goal is to help regional and remote artists to feel supported, empowered and connected and to ensure a thriving and diverse visual arts landscape right across the state. We sincerely thank The Adés Family Foundation for their ongoing commitment to South Australian visual artists, and our partner Country Arts SA for their wonderful collaboration on this hugely impactful program.”

Country Arts SA Visual Arts Manager Lauren Mustillo said Intersection both celebrates the experience and acknowledges the challenges of living in regional SA.

“We’ve learnt that isolation in all its diverse forms is a constant challenge for regional artists, but it can also be a strength. The places artists live and work can inform their artwork and feed research and storytelling that is completely unique to them.

It was important for us to visit artists on their home turf to understand their experience and flip the script on the idea that you need to come to the city to access advice and professional opportunities. We’ve met artists on the banks of the Murray, in orange orchards, by the ocean, in sheds and home studios, and seen what makes them tick and what inspires them.”

At each main stop, a community event is held to build relationships and strengthen networking between regional creatives. The events also feature an Artist Talk from a local artist, sharing their insights and lived experiences working as a regional artist.

Regional artists living in the Adelaide Hills, Port Lincoln, Southern Flinders Ranges or the Barossa Valley can request an Intersection Tour studio visit via Expressions of Interest. Studio visits are free professional development meetings with Guildhouse and Country Arts SA staff where artists can share their work and seek guidance related to their individual arts practice.
