Arlon Hall is a contemporary artist who graduated from UniSA’s School of Art, Architecture and Design with Honours in 2011. Predominantly working in painting and drawing, Hall’s current practice investigates the relationship between line and colour, fusing these elements together, exploring the moments in between and in collision. Through this ongoing investigation of drawing and painting, Hall is able to communicate particular concepts with the entanglement of colour, line and symbols through his abstract painting. He has recently been exploring ways to extend his painting and drawing through sculpture and installation. He is a member of the art collective ‘The Bait Fridge’, where his practice is further expanded through performance, dance and costume making.
The work presented explores a level of vulnerable experimentation from Hall. In contrast to the emphasis on clean lines and shapes present in his previous works, he has delved deeper into exploring intuitive mark-making, with the indecisive lines mimicking the trajectory of an artist’s practice. Line and colour trip, stumble, fall and turn back on them self as they dance in unstable landscapes.
Hall also works as a secondary high school art teacher and has been involved in running and assisting workshops for Carclew’s Pom Pom Program. In 2015 Hall undertook a residency at Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi, India through The Helpmann Academy. He has exhibited at a number of galleries through South Australia including the Barossa Regional Gallery, FELT Space, Peter Walker Fine Art, Carclew, Foating Goose Studios and Fontanelle.
