Call Out: Queen’s Theatre Interpretive Artwork Commission, Expression of Interest

Guildhouse is working in partnership with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet to commission a South Australian artist in the delivery of a high-quality interpretive wall-based artwork on the western wall of the iconic Queen’s Theatre. The wall is nestled between the Wingfold Tower and the Queen’s Theatre along Eliza Street, Adelaide.

Tucked away in a tiny Adelaide courtyard named Playhouse Lane, the Queen’s Theatre holds memories since the first decade of the establishment of the colony of South Australia.

Guildhouse and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet are seeking a contemporary interpretive artwork outcome that will reflect the Queen’s Theatre as a site of significant cultural and historical value.

Public art offers an opportunity to create intrigue and attract people to places. It is envisioned that the interpretive artwork will provide a dynamic, sensory experience which is designed to inspire, engage, and educate, by day and by night.

The opportunity is for a wall-based interpretive artwork which can include a combination of 2D and 3D wall based elements, with a requirement for the integration of LED lighting in order to achieve a day/night presence.

The budget for 5 artists to create a Concept Design is $1,500 per artist

The commissioning budget for this exciting public artwork opportunity is $155,000

To gain a full understanding of the requirements of the Commission, and for further details including site images, wall specifications and a project timeline, please refer to the Project Brief via the button below.

Concept Designs are not required at this stage of the process and any EOI submissions including a Concept Design will not be assessed. Five artists will be shortlisted from this Expression of Interest process and invited to create paid Concept Designs.
