Guildhouse is delighted to launch the call out for Hidden in Plain Sight

Applications are now open, and close 24 May 2026, 6pm.

Hidden in Plain Sight is a socially engaged art exhibition and public program seeking to challenge misconceptions and stigma surrounding poverty and disadvantage in South Australia.

This opportunity will support 12 Guildhouse Community or Accredited Members, residing in South Australia, with lived experience of poverty to develop skills, exhibit work, earn income and contribute to important conversations.

Guildhouse will follow a Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) framework as a platform for social change. Guildhouse has engaged Maz McGann, an experienced CACD consultant, to work with the selected artists to co-design and co-create the Hidden in Plain Sight exhibition at Adelaide Airport.

This project will introduce participating artists to the principles and methodologies of Community Arts and Cultural Development practice (CACD), explore the role of artists in advocacy, and provide a framework for translating lived experience into creative work.

Pre-existing works by the selected artists will be displayed, with the exhibition launching at Adelaide Airport during Anti-Poverty Week 2026, spanning 3-months and reaching an estimated audience of 2 million visitors.

As part of Guildhouse’s advocacy for best practice and the fair treatment of artists as workers, each artist will receive a sitting fee, an artwork loan fee and travel allowance totalling $1,100 per person.

Artwork will be available for sale, all proceeds will go to the artists. This will provide further opportunity for artists with lived experience of poverty to generate income directly from this project.

Hidden in Plain Sight is presented by Guildhouse and delivery partner Adelaide Airport, with generous support from The Wyatt Trust.

Art is powerful. Art can change the world. This project establishes a platform for the artist’s voice to stimulate engagement with communities, build empathy and contribute to vital conversations in meaningful and authentic ways. We are excited to invite our Guildhouse Members to join this groundbreaking project and we are incredibly grateful to our partners The Wyatt Trust and Adelaide Airport for creating this opportunity.
