Through an interest in perspective and spatial representation, Jason Sims employs light and reflection to create expansive environments, exploring the internal and external, the physical and psychological. Sims grapples with illusion, its seductive qualities and ability to confound the senses. This idea of mirage has the potential to question conceptions of the world and the limits of perception. Sims creates visceral experiences that draw upon the imagination, offering moments of immersion and wonder.

In 2022, Burnside Village partnered with Guildhouse to deliver a series of public artworks as part of its transformation into a world-class shopping destination.
Working alongside The Cohen Group, Titanium Property Investment, Buchan, RCP, and Hansen Yuncken, Guildhouse commissioned six exceptional artists—Caleb Shea, Gray Hawk, Jason Sims, Peter Syndicas, Silvio Apponyi, and Seb Humphreys—to create site-specific public artworks that enrich the entire precinct.
From concept to completion, the project celebrates the skill, creativity, and innovation of our local and national arts community.

Artist Biography:

Jason Sims is a Tarntanya/Adelaide based interdisciplinary artist who works in the realm of perceptual art. Using the properties of light and reflection, he makes sculptural works, large-scale installations and public art that create simple illusions of space and form.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) from UniSA in 2006, Sims has exhibited across Australia as well as in Hong Kong, the USA, the UK and Europe. His work is held in public and private collections around the world, and he has been a finalist in numerous awards. In 2020, Sims was commissioned by Illuminate Adelaide to deliver his fourth major public artwork as a gift to the city in celebration of the festival’s inaugural year, and in 2023 he had his first solo exhibition in Europe at HOFA Gallery, London.
